FAQ

How long should permanent makeup last?

Permanent cosmetics last a long time, but not forever.  As you become accustomed to your new makeup it’s not uncommon to want more definition or more color.  You will want to freshen up your look every couple of years.  The darker the original color, the longer it will remain unchanged.  Lighter, natural, delicate colors are often times more vulnerable to the effects of sun, chlorine and breakdown by the body’s natural responses over time.

I really like the natural look.  Can permanent makeup be done so I look great everyday without looking overdone?

Absolutely!  The most requested style of makeup is enhancement of the natural facial features.  The objective of these procedures is to raise self esteem, self-confidence, and allow for a more active lifestyle.  The natural look also allows you to apply normal cosmetics over your permanent makeup for color variety or for a more dramatic look if desired .

What certification should I look for in choosing a permanent makeup technician?

Choose a technician carefully by considering training, experience and portfolio.  In  the state of Oregon, we must be licensed through the state fulfilling required hours of training.  With the high demand for permanent cosmetics, many states are requiring additional training by their licensed professionals.  Ideally, continued education over the required five hours per year, is a sign of professional commitment.  Identifying with the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals, the largest organization in the industry and certification (Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional) ensures your technician has achieved the knowledge to provide the highest level of excellence to their client.

Are permanent cosmetics really permanent?

Technically, permanent makeup procedures are considered permanent because the color is implanted into the upper  reticular part of the dermal layer of the skin (less technically, one of the under layers) which is protected and cannot be washed off.  However, as with any tattoo, fading can and often does occur requiring periodic maintenance, color re-enhancement or color re-freshing.  Just like hair color, bleached teeth or even house paint, pigment implanted in the skin may fade with time and sun exposure.

Does it hurt?

There have been many topical anesthetics developed especially for permanent makeup procedures.  These creams and gels are topically applied to the desired area both before and during the procedure to assure you the most comfortable experience possible.  Some people have described the sensation as a “tingling” feeling.   You don’t have to miss work or take time off to recover.  The discomfort, although temporary, is nothing compared to the lasting enjoyment of worry-free makeup.
